Your work and/or hobbies involve the use of a trailer and you have already identified what is right for you. You should therefore also think about storage and, above all, protection against theft. Trailers are no exception, they are also attractive to malicious people and it is therefore important to protect them.

There are two situations: coupled or uncoupled trailers. Most of the locks can be adapted to both cases and you will find different solutions.

Anti-theft device on the coupler

There are several variants that allow the locking lever to be blocked or make it impossible to couple and uncouple the trailer.

  • Complete coverage of the coupling part. Models such as the one below protect the trailer, whether attached or not. You can therefore drive with the anti-theft device installed. It is preferable to choose a model with a lock or with padlock protection for maximum security.

  • Security lock or cylinder. These systems make it impossible to unlock the towing head. There are two types depending on your trailer: either insert it at the handle into the cylinder-shaped hole (1 in the illustration), or at the head into the locking pin slide (2 in the illustration).

  • Systems that "replace" the ball to prevent hitching.

Wheel lock

This anti-theft device is also called a "shoe". You will find several devices that wrap around the wheel or go through the rim to keep the trailer from moving.

GPS tracker

There are many different models and systems. For example, you can choose a GPS tracker that covers all of Europe and 70 other countries, without a subscription and with three-year autonomy for a price of +/- 100 euros.

As with all anti-theft devices, it is wise to have a number of them, especially if the trailer is parked in a quiet area. If possible, always try and chain up your trailer to a fixed point.
